Marika Bordes Oct. 16 Sculpture Opening Update

Launching the Fall 2010 Seguin Heritage Museum season, on Oct. 16, a Seguin sculptress will bring her designs , intricate one of a kind, wood carvings to debut at a special evening opening slated from 6-9 p.m.
Marika Bordes’ sculptures in wood, along with her students' work, will then be open to the public, daily at the museum from 11a.m.-4p.m,
M-F, till the end of the year. The centerpiece of the display will be the 14' statue of "Gwaihir" carved and formed from a chinaberry tree, provided by John Schwartz of Seguin. The figure represents a character in "Lord of the Rings" and is the sculptress’ inspiration for the piece.
Providing background music that night will be Mitchell Jazz Group. Local musicians, the Seguin and Commerce Tx. based group includes,
Brad Davis, Sandi Mitchell and Scott Mitchell and their repertoire offers Christian/Indy/Gospel and Rock. Recording on the Planer Mill Records label, detailed info about them can be obtained at http://bereamusic.com.
From their biographical notes highlights are excerpts, “Sandi Mitchell, a formally trained singer from Nashville, is a graduate of Belmont University. She has performed in numerous stage productions, musical variety shows, in theme parks and on cruise ships. She directs children in many productions of ‘Time Travelers Theatre’ and the ‘Seguin Performing Arts Company’, …as well as ’ voiceover work and background vocals on independent musical projects.
“Brad Davis spent ten years performing on stage as a member of Marty Stuart's road band. For the past seven years he has played lead acoustic guitar with Earl Scruggs and Friends, and for the past six years he has played lead electric and acoustic guitar with movie actor Billy Bob Thornton's rock band. Brad has worked for or recorded with Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Pam Tillis, The Forester Sisters, Tommy Shaw (Styx), David Lee Roth (Van Halen), Sheryl Crow, Sam Bush, Warren Zevon, and The Sweethearts of the Rodeo. Additionally, Brad has recorded two album projects featuring Billy Bob Thornton on Mercury Records and has toured both Europe and the United States as the lead guitar player for Billy Bob Thornton’s band.
“Scott Mitchell studied guitar at Southwest Guitar Conservatory in San Antonio and commercial music at Belmont University in Nashville. Scott has toured as lead guitarist with Louise Mandrell and Ty Herndon, performed with the late Elton John bassist Dee Murray, as well as Brad Davis. Scott has been on several television programs including Star Search and Hee Haw, and produced jingles for Hummingbird Productions in Nashville where he also recorded and played on numerous studio projects, as well as with the rock bands ‘Invasion of Privacy’ and ‘New Frontier. Scott currently resides in Seguin, where he pastors Grace Family Bible Church and writes and produces Berea music with Brad Davis.

The trio will provide background selections during the Marika Bordes exhibit opening from 6-9 p.m. at the museum, 114 N. River.
